From the School Administrator manual, "Signing In & Your Role".
Sign in at studentdirectory.app with your email and password (or a magic link, or Sign in with Apple/Google if your school enables it). Send magic link always goes to the "Check your email" screen, even for an address with no account (no email is sent then), so the form never reveals who is registered: if no email arrives, check the address or ask your school to add you. A magic-link or password-reset email contains both a button and a 6-digit code: tap the button, or type the code on the "Check your email" screen. The code works from any mail app or device. Once signed in, most of this manual is reachable from the left-hand navigation under Admin Functions - the exceptions are Members, Pending Invites, and Managing Other Admins (Members — Parents, Password Resets, and Student Links, Pending Invites, Managing Other Admins), which no longer have their own nav links now that Access (Members — Parents, Password Resets, and Student Links) covers the same ground in one place.
Help guides. Everyone, you included, can open the public Help guides at www.studentdirectory.app/help: separate
guides for parents, school staff, editors and Stream Authors, and administrators, with a search box. In the web
app, the ? button in the top bar (beside the person icon) opens the guide for the page you are on;
in the iPhone, iPad and Mac app, Help and guides is at the bottom of the sidebar and in Profile. Paste a guide's
address into an email or a group chat when a parent asks how to do something. The administrator guides are this
manual, one topic per page.
Help for parents. Families can read a public help page with a step-by-step "Getting started" guide
(iPhone and web) and answers to common questions at www.studentdirectory.app/faqs. You do not need to sign
in to open it, so it is safe to paste into a group chat or a school email. The Sign In screen links to it too
("Need help? Read the FAQs"). The first answer on it tells a parent who sees "Contact your school administrator"
to ask you to add their email; once you do (Access then + Invite someone new, see
Members — Parents, Password Resets, and Student Links), they just sign in again.
There are two admin tiers:
- Senior Admin — everything a Junior Admin can do, plus: managing other admins (Managing Other Admins), the destructive "clear roster" action (Clearing the Roster (Danger Zone)), Map Coordinates and Features settings (School Settings), the Audit Log (Audit Log), and approving Flux support access requests (Operator Access Requests).
- Junior Admin — day-to-day roster and content management: students, staff, parents/allowlist, Document Library, Notices, Permission Slips, Polls, Calendar, Menus, Organizations content, and the School Logo. Cannot manage other admins, cannot clear the roster, cannot change Map Coordinates or Features settings.
If you're not sure which you are, check whether School Settings appears in your left nav - only a Senior Admin sees it.
If your school's Flux account is not currently active, it simply no longer appears for you: it is gone from the school list, and if it was your only school you see "We couldn't find a school for your account" and a note to contact your school administrator (contact Flux support if you are the administrator). Nothing has been lost; every bit of your school's data (roster, notices, documents, and everything else) is preserved exactly as it was and comes back the moment your account is reactivated.
Multi-factor authentication (optional). If you have turned on an authenticator app under Account → Multi-factor authentication, every sign-in now asks for the current 6-digit code right after your password, on an Enter Your Auth Code screen — nothing else loads until you enter it. If you no longer have your authenticator, use the Sign out link on that screen and contact Flux support to have the factor removed.
The iPhone, iPad and Mac app does the same: after you sign in (with your password, an emailed link or Apple/Google) it shows a Two-factor authentication screen asking for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, and nothing else loads until you enter it. A wrong code says so and lets you try again; Sign Out is always on that screen. You need an internet connection to enter the code, so if you open the app offline after an update you will see the screen with an offline message until you are back online.
