How do I turn on two-factor authentication?
Open Security & Password on the web or Profile in the app and scan the QR code with an authenticator app.

Two-factor authentication is optional. To turn it on, scan a QR code with an authenticator app, then enter the 6-digit code it shows.
Turn it on
On the web:
- Open your account menu and choose Security & Password.
- Find the multi-factor authentication section.
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Apple Passwords, 1Password, Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
- Enter the 6-digit code to finish.
In the iPhone or iPad app:
- Open Profile (the gear icon).
- Find the two-factor authentication section and follow the steps to scan the QR code.
- Enter the 6-digit code to finish.
Signing in afterward
After you sign in with your password, an emailed link, Apple or Google, the web asks for your code on an Enter Your Auth Code screen. The app shows a Two-factor authentication screen. Nothing else loads until you enter the current code. The app needs an internet connection for this step.
Good to know
- In the iPhone app, 1Password does not show its code suggestion above the keyboard yet. Copy the code in 1Password and paste it into the field.
- A wrong code says so and lets you try again. Sign Out is always on that screen.
- If you lose your authenticator, use the contact form and we will help you get back in.
