How do I write a News Feed post with photos?

Select New post, write up to 2,000 characters, add photos and categories, then select Post or Save draft.

Last updated 2026-11-04

Select New post, write your text, add photos and categories if you like, and select Post. To finish later, select Save draft instead.

Available when your school turns on the News Feed, and only for Stream Authors and administrators.

Steps

  1. Open News Feed and select New post.
  2. The first time, and whenever the policy changes, read the posting policy and select I have read this.
  3. Type your post. The limit is 2,000 characters. Web links in the text become tappable.
  4. Select Add photos to attach up to eight pictures. JPEG, PNG and WebP work.
  5. Under each photo, select Add description to write a short description for people who use screen readers. It is optional but helpful.
  6. Choose up to five categories. They are the same categories your school uses for Notices and Documents. A post with no category appears under Other.
  7. Select Post, or Save draft.

What happens to your photos

Photos are shrunk, made upright and stripped of location and camera data before anyone sees them. If your school has turned on a watermark, such as its name or logo, it is added to new photos automatically. A photo from a post you cancel or discard is deleted straight away.

Remove a post

You can delete your own post from the feed. Administrators can remove any post.

Good to know

  • In the iPhone, iPad and Mac app, Post is at the top of the screen and Save draft is at the bottom.
  • In the app, sharing a web page, text or photos from another app to Post to News Feed creates a draft. Nothing is posted until you select Post.
  • Everyone at the school can favorite your post. They see a count, not who.
  • When a post goes live, members get one notification.
