# Can I use the app offline?

Yes. The iPhone and iPad app keeps your directory on your device, so you can look things up without a connection.

Yes. The iPhone, iPad and Mac app keeps a copy of your directory on your device, so you can browse it with no signal. The web app needs an internet connection.

## What works offline

- Browsing the student list and student pages, as of your last sync.
- Opening permission slips and lists you have already loaded.
- Starring students and writing notes. The app saves them on your device and sends them when you are back online.
- Reading News Feed posts you already loaded.

## What needs a connection

- Answering a poll, a permission slip or a sign-up. The app confirms the current status with the server first, so it will not let you act on out-of-date information. You may see "reconnecting to confirm current status."
- The details of a poll or sign-up you have not opened before.
- Entering a two-factor code at sign-in.
- Updates from the school. New notices, menus and changes arrive on the next sync.

## Weak signal

If your connection is poor rather than gone, the app keeps showing what is on screen instead of replacing it with an error. Pull down to refresh when your connection returns.

## Good to know

- Open the app once with a good connection after installing, so it has a full copy.
- Signing out clears the downloaded content from your phone and your Apple Watch.
- A change that the school cannot accept while you were offline is set aside with a "Change Not Saved" note.
